Onelife Fitness plans to open its newest Hampton Roads club at the Marketplace at Tech Center.

"We think Tech Center is going to be an incredible project and we just want to be part of it," said co-executive chairman Kirk Galiani of US Fitness Holdings, which includes the Onelife and Crunch Fitness brands.

Construction could begin early next year behind Ulta, said Jeff Garrison of Georgia-based S.J. Collins Enterprises, the Tech Center retail development partner.

Shoppers, mark your calendars.

After years of planning and months of construction, Whole Foods — the national grocer that is locally sourced, organic and natural — announced Tuesday that it will open its 40,000-square-foot store in Newport News on Nov. 4, according to company spokeswoman Katie Malloy.

The store is located at 12080 Jefferson Ave. in the Marketplace at Tech Center development. It will sell a number of organic products, including seasonal, locally grown produce, seafood, meat and poultry.

The concrete slab is poured, and the framing is next to be installed as a new wave of development at Tech Center at Oyster Point begins to take shape.

"This is going to be an apartment community cram-packed with amenities," said Tarra Secrest of Drucker & Falk, which will manage and operate the apartment development. "This will definitely complement the activity already occurring in Tech Center."

The $450 million Tech Center development in Newport News is bringing new retailers to the Peninsula. Some have already opened their doors to the public and more plan to do the same in the following weeks.
