A $250 million research, retail, residential and commercial campus has been proposed for a prime plot in Newport News.

Newport News-based W.M. Jordan Co. has partnered with the Georgia-based retail developer S. J. Collins Enterprises, Virginia Tech and the city of Newport News to build a Tech Center on 43 acres next to the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility – another partner better known as Jefferson Lab – on the corner of Oyster Point Road and Jefferson Avenue.

NEWPORT NEWS – Whole Foods has plans for a Peninsula store.

13News has learned it will be located at Oyster Point Road and Jefferson Avenue. It will be a 35,000 square foot store with a projected opening date of 2015.

In a post on its Facebook page, Whole Foods listed Newport news as one of 11 cities that will get a store.

Less than four months after opening its first local store in Virginia Beach, specialty grocer Whole Foods Market Inc. announced plans to open a second Hampton Roads location, this time in Newport News.

Whole Foods, popular for its array of organic and natural products, listed Newport News among 11 new leases Wednesday as part of its release of fiscal first-quarter financial results.
