SARASOTA -- The Sarasota County Commission voted Wednesday to approve a new 40,000-square-foot Whole Foods Market in on the corner of University Parkway and Honore Avenue.

The North Sarasota location will be larger than the store in downtown Sarasota and will include prepared foods, salad and soup stations, a juice bar and bakery.

The owners of Marketplace at Tech Center have secured another investor that will also double as the retail center's property manager.

Inland Real Estate Group announced Wednesday plans to invest and manage 210,000 square feet of the 250,000-square-foot shopping center.

John Lawson, president and CEO of Newport News-based W.M. Jordan, and development partner of the Marketplace retail center, confirmed Wednesday that Inland's real estate investment trust will make an initial investment of $72.5 million, with additional investment payments for the shopping center to come.

SARASOTA COUNTY - A Whole Foods Market at University Parkway and Interstate 75 could open as early as summer 2017.

The Sarasota County Planning Commission unanimously voted on Thursday to recommend approval to the Sarasota County commissioners next month for a new 40,000-square-foot Whole Foods at University Parkway and Honore Avenue. The Atlanta-based developer, S.J. Collins Enterprises, intends to break ground in March.
