Site prep for Whole Foods in Chamblee moving along, part of City’s ongoing economic revitalization

Chamblee, GA, December 26, 2015 – by Trey Benton – Site prep for an 11.2 acre retail center called Peachtree Crossing in the City of Chamblee with Whole Foods as the anchor, is well underway.

You may have noticed the popular Ashe-Simpson Nursery and the former Paradise Cafe (that sat vacant for years), both located directly across Peachtree Blvd. from the Chamblee Lowe’s, have been demolished.

The Peachtree Crossing site is being developed by S.J. Collins Enterprises, whose team has developed a number of centers around a Whole Foods anchor. In addition to a 45,000 sq. ft. Whole Foods Market, other tenants are set to include Octane Coffee, YEAH! BURGER, Chipotle, Zoës Kitchen and Taqueria del Sol.

The area surrounding Peachtree Crossing has more than 4,300 apartment units, 185 town houses planned or existing, over 3,400 owner occupied homes within a one mile radius and over 41,000 households within 3 miles.

“Development along Peachtree Boulevard in Chamblee highlights a greater trend of major growth in the northeastern quadrant of the city’s lopsided ITP circle,” says Jeff Garrison, Partner/Development with S.J. Collins. “The corridor between Buford Highway and Peachtree (Industrial) Boulevard is gaining density in the form of housing, office and shopping developments spanning from Brookhaven to Doraville.”

Just north on Peachtree, the Olmsted and Parkview on Peachtree have also begun site preparation.

All three of these projects are major players in Chamblee’s ongoing economic revitalization, which in recent years has included the $400-million expansion of the CDC campus, the adaptive re-use of 5256 Peachtree into office space, and a number of streetscape enhancement projects.

“This development is a transformative development that really starts to define what the southern front-door looks like as you enter Chamblee on Peachtree Blvd.,” Chamblee Mayor Eric Clarkson told The Post earlier this year. “It compliments some of the other developments we have coming in to the city.”

Peachtree Crossing will be located at 5001 Peachtree Blvd., where Johnson Ferry Rd. intersects with Peachtree. The site was once home to Oxford Chemicals Company that operated in Chamblee for nearly 50 years until closing up shop in the early 90’s.

The Peachtree Crossing development is planned to be completed in Summer of 2017.
